Intumescent strips are fire resistant passive protection products. When exposed to extreme heat they are activated and expand to control & prevent the spread of fire. Intumescent strips provide passive protection through gaps around doors, fire doors, windows and cable/pipe access.
When exposed to fire the intumescent material in the strips activate that causes them to expand to 10 times their original thickness. This expansion fills gaps, cracks and prevents flames and hot gases from passing through and spreading.
Intumescent strips expand 5-10 times their original thickness, and some can expand up to 20 times their original size to provide passive protection.
Intumescent strips have a lifespan of 10-15 years when properly maintained and without heavy use of preventing fire from spreading.
Yes, intumescent strips need to be installed on all fire doors to comply with fire safety standards and building regulations.
Intumescent strips are used around fire doors, door frames, and gags in walls for cables and pipe access.
