What are Batwing Seals?
Fire seals are a vital addition that can be added to door frames and door thresholds, in an attempt to delay/prevent the spread of fire and smoke in emergencies. Another useful seal that could be worth installing is the Batwing Seal.
What is a Batwing Seal?
Batwing seals are optimised for cold smoke and acoustic protection to fire-rated door assemblies. The L-shaped seal is fitted to the surface of the door frame, perpendicular to the frame and the door stop; so, the edge of the door will meet the seal upon closure.
Is a Batwing Seal the same as a fire seal?
Although the Batwing Seal has been tested to withstand British Standard-476 temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius, it is not classed as an intumescent seal, and so should be used in accordance with one to utilise the maximum functionality.
What else does the Batwing Seal offer?
In addition to acoustic and cold smoke performance, they provide light protection, and resistance to drafts due to its position in the door frame, thus offering insulation properties. They are available in a selection of standard colours which can be chosen from and are very quick and easy to fit.
One of the simplest pieces of fire-rated kit to install, the Batwing Seal is available through Noberne amongst a variety of other acoustic and intumescent seals. If you have any questions regarding the fire and smoke seals supplied at Noberne, or for fire safety advice, get in touch today.
