Lorient 35dB Acoustic Door Sealing System

The Lorient 35dB Acoustic Door Sealing System is a combination of three specialist sealing products designed to reduce sound transmission around the perimeter and threshold of a door.

Manufactured by Lorient, part of ASSA ABLOY, the system combines acoustic, smoke and thermal sealing solutions with fire-rated components to help improve doorset performance.

The combination has achieved 35dB acoustic performance when tested on a 54mm thick, solid chipboard core, single-leaf, single-swing doorset.

Although the acoustic test was carried out on this specific door construction, the individual sealing products may also be suitable for other doorset types and thicknesses, subject to the manufacturer’s installation requirements and supporting test evidence.

Components Included in the Tested System

1. Lorient LAS1212 Batwing® Acoustic Perimeter Seal

The LAS1212 Batwing® is a high-performance acoustic and smoke perimeter seal featuring a specially designed curved fin profile.

Key features:

  • Provides effective acoustic and smoke sealing.
  • Curved fin design minimises resistance when opening and closing the door.
  • Can be fitted with minimal disruption.
  • Suitable for compatible door perimeter applications.

2. Lorient LP1504DS Fire, Smoke and Acoustic Seal

The LP1504DS combines fire, smoke, acoustic and thermal sealing functions within a single perimeter seal.

Key features:

  • Combined fire, smoke, acoustic and thermal sealing.
  • Low-friction design for ease of door operation.
  • Continuous smoke sealing.
  • Integral antimicrobial protection.
  • Suitable for compatible fire and acoustic doorset applications.

3. Lorient LAS8001 si Automatic Drop Seal

The LAS8001 si is a durable automatic drop seal designed to seal the gap between the bottom of the door and the floor.

Key features:

  • Provides acoustic, smoke and thermal sealing.
  • Automatically lifts clear of the floor when the door opens.
  • Self-levelling mechanism accommodates uneven floors.
  • Helps reduce sound transmission beneath the door.
  • Designed for mortised installation.

Acoustic Performance

This Lorient sealing combination has achieved a sound reduction rating of 35dB when tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2:2010.

The tested configuration consisted of:

  • 54mm thick solid chipboard core door.
  • Single-leaf, single-swing construction.
  • LAS1212 Batwing® perimeter seal.
  • LP1504DS combined perimeter seal.
  • LAS8001 si automatic drop seal.

The acoustic performance of any doorset depends on its overall construction, including the door leaf, frame, perimeter gaps, threshold arrangement and correct installation of the seals.

Suitable Applications

These Lorient sealing products may be suitable for a range of doorset applications, including:

  • Commercial offices and meeting rooms.
  • Schools and educational buildings.
  • Hotels and hospitality premises.
  • Healthcare facilities.
  • Residential and apartment buildings.
  • Other buildings requiring improved acoustic separation.

Suitability must be assessed against the specific doorset construction and performance requirements.

Important Technical Information

The individual components may be used in other compatible doorset arrangements, but acoustic, fire and smoke performance must be supported by the relevant manufacturer’s test evidence, certification and installation instructions.

For specific technical applications, please refer to Lorient’s published guidance.

Acoustic door kits with annual inspection and maintenance should last 12-15 years. Acoustic seals however may need replacing more frequently depending on usage and environmental conditions.

Yes, acoustic door kits provide sound reduction in both directions, most acoustic door kits typically are designed for dual-direction sound control.
